Are you Drinking From the Rock?
What is the primary objective of the Holy Spirit? Is He
performing specific task(s) relevant to Christians? Let’s focus
on those explicit duties that He is presently performing for
those of faith.
First, let’s get the concept that the Holy Spirit has been sent to
perform a specific and personal work just for you and just for me.
The question is, “What is the major objective of His work?” How
are you helping Him to perform His work in you? Let’s make sure
of what that work is; perhaps we can cooperate with the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said, “I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another
Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever” (John 14:16). Jesus
asked the father to send us (we Christians) the Comforter. Realize
however, the Comforter has not been sent for the world at large, “Even
the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive , because it seeth him
not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you,
and shall be in you” (John 14:17).
In order to understand the Holy Spirit’s work, we first need to review “the
anointing!” Many in Christian circles speak openly about “the anointing;” yet
they remain uncertain concerning exactly what it is. Some hold the anointing
on such a high plane that they think that only the famous faith healers, the
great evangelists, the well-known prophets of God, or pastors & ministers can
operate in the anointing. However , that is simply not the case; the anointing is
for all Christians! The anointing is available to every born-again believer; as
we seek to understand the work of the Holy Spirit, let’s first review how the
anointing functions in us!
We simply need to gain some understanding in order to begin to live in the
anointing. On Jesus’ last evening with his disciples He shared additional
information, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will
send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your
remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26). Many have
attempted to teach that the Holy Ghost is merely a form of God’s power. That
teaching is vastly incomplete; He is a person, in fact the third person of the Trinity!

Jesus taught concerning the Holy Spirit whom He referred to as the Spirit of Truth, “he will
guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). But how does the Holy Spirit teach us? The Holy
Spirit of God teaches us through His unction ( anointing ), “But ye have an unction
(anointing) from the Holy One, and ye know all things” (1 John 2:20). John went on to
teach, “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not
that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth”
(1 John 2:27). There three usages of the Greek word charisma; ( note the last three
highlighted words ) these are the only three Biblical instances or appearances for the word
charisma , which has been rendered as “anointing” and “unction” in the New Testament.
Literally, the word charisma means, “to smear on,” “to overshadow,” or “to paint over.”
Some of the best Christian leaders teach that we should view the anointing in the following
fashion: The Holy Spirit is a person and the anointing is His personality! When you
receive the anointing you are smeared with everything that makes up the Holy Spirit
directly onto your natural being. It would be as if His personality overshadowed you or
clothed you with His virtues, His character, His power, instead of your own! This is the
super ” coming from the third person of the Trinity mixing with your “ natural ” to form in
you the “ supernatural ! ” One possible definition for the anointing could be, “God’s power
to get results in human vessels.”
Now just exactly what kind of power are we talking about here? Peter and John had just
healed a man who was lame from birth; that miracle took place just outside of the Temple
gate known as “Beautiful.” Focus your attention on Peter’s words, which were directed
toward the gathering crowd who was amazed at the man that had been healed, “the God of
our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the
presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. 14 But ye denied the Holy One
(Acts 3:13-14). Peter’s words were intended to provoke the people’s hearts into
repentance; he reminded them of their complicity and agreement in the denial of Jesus
Christ when, “they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him!” (Mark 15:14)
However, now try to reconcile Peter’s accusatory words regarding their denial of Jesus in
that lecture with how he himself had reacted about eight weeks earlier on the night that
Jesus was arrested. Just outside of the High Priest’s house a young maid identified Peter as
one of Jesus’ disciples, “This man was also with him. 57 And he denied him , saying,
Woman, I know him not . 58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art
also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not ” (Luke 22:56-58). Peter went on just about an
hour later to deny Jesus for a third time that evening! The whole point is that Peter was
afraid of being identified with Jesus just a few months earlier; then suddenly on the day of
Pentecost the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples and gave them power ( an anointing )!
Peter operated in this anointing which gave him the power to unashamedly accuse others of
his own similar act of denial.
Since we have been focusing on Peter, notice his own words which identify this new power
that suddenly had overshadowed his being. In fact his words were addressed to this same

crowd during which Peter accused them of denying the Holy One. Notice his words
concerning this amazing power, “Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye
so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to
walk?” (Acts 3:12). Peter was making it clear that while this man who was born lame was
now walking around, it was not by Peter or John’s power, “ as though by our own power
No. It was not Peter’s power; rather, it was the anointing that Peter had received from the
Holy Spirit just days earlier, “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a
rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there
appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they
were all filled with the Holy Ghost , and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit
gave them utterance” (Acts 2:2-4). The anointing came upon Peter just exactly as Jesus
had earlier promised, “ye shall receive power , after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you”
(Acts 1:8). Peter was exercising a whole new kind of power , one that was able to cause the
lame man to walk. Peter received this power through the anointing he obtained as a result
of receiving the Holy Spirit. The manifestations which became apparent as a result of this
anointing was intended by Jesus to be signs for unbelievers, “these signs shall follow them
that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they
shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” (Mark 16:17-18). The anointing is a
yoke destroying, burden removing unction intended, “to let the oppressed go free, and that
ye break every yoke” (Isa 58:6). Peter operated in all of these signs, which the LORD had
prophesied.
The anointing is the power of God that is intended to operate in us! Notice more of Jesus’
words, “behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of
Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high ” (Luke 24:48-49). The disciples
were told to wait until they were endued ( which means to be dressed or clothed with the
virtues or qualities of the person from which the endowment is coming ) with this power
from on high! Like Peter, Paul too was certainly aware of this same anointing power from
God. He wrote, “according to the power that worketh in us ” (Eph 3:20). --- If you would
like to know more about this anointing, please get the Bible Study entitled, “Anointed Son
of the Blessed” http://www.rivkah.org/PDFs/021107.pdf . You may obtain a copy from the

It is certainly true that the anointing is manifest in different people to varying degrees. We
can liken the release of the unction from God by picturing two major spiritual valves that
regulate the flow of the anointing in our lives. These regulating valves that hold us back
from truly walking in the full glory as the Sons of God are: (1) Ignorance; and (2)
Immaturity! When we are in “ignorance” of the Bible promises, we simply do not know
what is included in our salvation and since we do not realize that we have access to “all
things,” we do not claim many of those things of which we are entitled. Secondly, when
our limiting condition is a result of “immaturity” we simply need to develop maturity.
Why is it that my brother Ivan would not entrust his diesel pickup to Bo, his young nine-

year-old son? The answer is that Bo simply has not yet attained the maturity to handle a
vehicle with that kind of power. A child simply does not yet know how to exercise
judgment and properly cope with the associated responsibility. Bo would actually become
dangerous to those around him if he had access to all of that power while still a child. If

From the outset of this Bible Study we realized that in order to understand the Holy Spirit’s
work in us, we first needed to review certain aspects about the anointing. Now that we
have gone through a quick review, let’s get back to the main question that we started with
this evening, “What is the objective of the Holy Spirit on this earth?” “What is that
specific work that He is performing in you and in me?” Now that we have reviewed the
anointing, let’s begin to study more closely the work of the Holy Spirit in us.
We can begin by taking a look at David’s son Solomon. David was almost certainly the
greatest king who ever ruled over Israel. He amassed scores of billions of dollars in todays
dollars for material and resources from which Solomon later built the Temple of God.
Therefore, David was quite wealthy; as a result, Solomon surely grew up in a “want for
nothing” atmosphere. He would have enjoyed the best of educators and training. When
Solomon had just become the king of Israel; notice his request of the LORD God through a
dream, “O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father:
and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in ” (1 Kings 3:7). In his
humility, Solomon spoke of himself as, “but a little child: I know not how to go out or
come in.” Yet, he certainly had a good
education and high quality training.
So why was Solomon so humble in his
own sight? As we continue with the
story we learn that he asked of only
one specific thing from the LORD,
“Give therefore thy servant an
understanding heart to judge thy
people, that I may discern between
good and bad: for who is able to judge
this thy so great a people? 10 And the
speech pleased the Lord , that
Solomon had asked this thing” (1
Kings 3:9-10). Solomon asked for an
understanding heart; the Hebrews
word ( shaw-mah' ) is actually closer to
the meaning, a “ hearing heart .” We
know that Adam and Eve enjoyed an

unfettered communication with the LORD. Yet, the first time that we see ( shaw-mah' ) in
the Bible it references the fact that this communication between man and the LORD had
been lost, “And they heard ( shaw-mah' ) the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden
in the cool of the day” (Gen 3:8).
Exactly what did it mean to Solomon to have asked for a hearing heart ? His own proverb
concerning a hearing heart may give us some understanding, “ Hear thou, my son, and be
wise, and guide thine heart in the way” (Prov 23:19). The Prophet Ezekiel wrote about
how he communed with God, “he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak
unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears ” (Ezek 3:10). Surely, this is the
kind of a hearing heart that Solomon sought after. He wanted to commune directly with
God because he knew that wisdom would be required to lead His people Israel. Solomon
had also carefully observed that his father David had a close heartfelt relationship with
God; further, he knew that close relationship was the key to his success. In the beginning
of his reign Solomon started out with the right heart. God says that he will be with the
humble and contrite of heart; “I dwell . . . with him also that is of a contrite and humble
spirit , to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones” (Isa
57:15). For whatever reason he fell from God’s grace, it certainly sad that Solomon did not
maintain his contrite spirit and humble heart to the end of his days, “when Solomon was
old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect
with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father ” (1 Kings 11:4).
The point is that the hearing heart that Solomon asked of the LORD in the early part of his
reign had nothing to do with the blood-pumping organ in his chest; rather, he was referring
to his inner spirit and how it conversed with God! The Bible reveals that the heart and
spirit of a man are closely associated, “A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but
by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken” (Prov 15:13). --- If you would like to learn
more about this association, you may freely obtain the Bible Study entitled, “Spirit, Soul
and Body” http://www.rivkah.org/PDFs/040205.pdf from the World Wide Web at:
http://www.rivkah.org .
Now, as we get to the main point, let’s focus for just a moment on what the process is
through which we human beings have learned everything that we know. Let me ask the
question, “How have you learned everything that you know?” A more specific question is,
“How do we humans gather information?” To really get to the heart of our Bible Study,
the question is most precisely phrased, “What specific inputs do you utilize in order for you
to gather and store information into your memory?
–– Discuss these questions for a few minutes ––
We can observe the Biblical answer regarding how we learn both in the natural and the
spirit; to get that answer let’s notice a narrative where the concept shows up. Jesus had just
finished asking His disciples, “whom say ye that I am,” (Matt 16:15). In other words Jesus
was asking His disciples what they said amongst themselves concerning His identity. They
had already exhausted all of their speculative thoughts, “ Some say that thou art John the

Baptist: some , Elias; and others , Jeremias, or one of the prophets” (Matt 16:14). Suddenly
Peter just blurted out, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus
answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not
revealed it unto thee ” (Matt 16:16-17). Here Jesus is making the specific argument that
Peter’s customary methods of obtaining natural information ( flesh and blood ) as input
devices for his memory: sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell, were none of input
mechanisms that Peter used in order for him to say, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the
living God.” Peter knew something in his spirit which required some sort of an
extrasensory input mechanism in order for him to positively speak as he did! Sight, sound,
touch, taste, and smell are all of the inputs which feed our natural minds. As long as we
remain in the natural these are the only methods that we have in order to conclusively
prove what we know. In fact, the world of science has developed what they call the
“scientific method” through which they study and qualify natural things; they are founded
on the fact that they use only the five senses as their input media.
Certainly there are other recognized methods of input into the human mind such as
intuition. However, since these methods cannot be objectively or quantitatively measured
or observed they are generally rejected by the world’s scientific community and referred to
as extrasensory ( meaning outside of the five senses ). A human phenomenon that cannot be
dismissed and which falls into the class of hunches, premonitions, instinct, suspicion, and
the “ sixth sense, ” are most commonly categorized into ESP ( extrasensory perception ).
These “strange” phenomena are usually relegated to the world of the unusual and therefore
customarily ignored by the “rational” world. The Bible refers to the natural “rational”
world as “the flesh;” Jesus too referred to two entirely different realms, “That which is born
of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:6).
Notice from the passage out of the Book of Joel that God plans to extend beyond the five
senses in those humans who live “after the spirit,” “it shall come to pass afterward, that I
will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy ,
your old men shall dream dreams , your young men shall see visions ” (Joel 2:28). For God
to communicate with humans through prophecy, dreams, and visions means that He
certainly plans for mankind to experience input beyond the five physical senses.
What does the Bible have to say about humans receiving information from God? Does
God really want to share His sovereign information with humanity? YES! According to
Peter’s interpretation of that prophecy from Joel, God has already begun to pour out His
Spirit upon all flesh! God does not want to keep us in the dark; rather, He wants to show us
His glorious light! God wants to teach us; however, He will not teach us through our five
physical senses. The deep things of the spirit that we learn must come by the spirit. Jesus
told the woman at the well, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him
in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). Given that statement of Jesus concerning worship in the
spirit realm, it follows that those who communicate with God must communicate through
the spirit realm also. Therefore, using Jesus’ statement regarding worship, let’s postulate:

they that hear from God must hear from him through the spirit realm. Let’s study this
understanding from the Scripture.
Paul taught that Jesus personally revealed Himself to the apostle ( This means that in
essence, Paul received information outside of his five senses ), “I certify you, brethren, that
the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. 12 For I neither received it of man,
neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ (Gal 1:11-12). We must start
by realizing that God’s method of communication with humanity takes place through the
spirit realm. God teaches us by the Holy Spirit; therefore we need to learn to eliminate the
natural human resistance to the spirit realm, “Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart
and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost ” (Acts 7:51). Notice that the uncircumcised
in heart and ears ( meaning, those who are unconverted ) naturally resist the Holy Ghost.
It should not be difficult for us to realize that there are secrets known only by God. The
laws of aerodynamics have existed since creation; however, humanity simply did not know
about the laws nor did he know how to use them to his benefit for over 5,950 years. In like
fashion, the laws of electricity have existed since creation; however, humanity simply did
not know about the laws nor did he know how to use them to his benefit for over 5,900
years. God possesses information, which simply resides beyond the natural human
understanding until it has been revealed. Certainly after knowledge is revealed and
understood by the human mind, it can be used from that time forward, “The secret things
belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed ( notice carefully that
there are secret things that will be revealed! ) belong unto us and to our children for ever
(Deut 29:29). The point is that God reveals secret things to Christians! Our teacher is the
Holy Spirit; He has come into us to reveal things to our own human spirit! You can think
of it as if we have two separate spirits living within us. The Holy Spirit and our human
spirit! It is the Holy Spirit’s job to communicate and give revelation to our human spirit.
Now get this; God wants to reveal the
secret things to us, “The secret things
belong unto the LORD our God: but
those things which are revealed belong
unto us.” It is important that we realize
that we have the inner capacity to learn
things that do not filter through our five
senses but rather are revealed us through
our spirit! These secret things come
from the Holy Spirit and were given to
our human spirit. This kind of
knowledge that comes directly from the
Holy Spirit is called revelation. In
essence, revelation is God’s releasing of
inside information to us! A human

spirit that can hear what God’s Holy Spirit reveals is the essence of what Solomon desired
from God. He asked of only one specific thing from the LORD, “Give therefore thy
servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and
bad.” Solomon knew that he needed God’s inside information in order to rule Israel!
This brings us right back to the Apostle Paul who regularly operated in this exact type of
inside information , “my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's
wisdom (Paul’s information did not come to him by his five physical senses) , but in
demonstration of the Spirit and of power (Paul’s information came by the Holy Spirit!) : 5
That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God . 6
Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world,
nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in
a mystery, even the hidden wisdom (Remember, “The secret things (or hidden wisdom)
belong unto the LORD our God) , which God ordained before the world unto our glory” (1
Cor 2:4-7). Now keep in mind that we have been talking about getting inside information
or revelation from God, but that revelation cannot come by the five senses. With the
concept regarding the limitations of our five senses in mind, let us continue with Paul’s
words, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard , (these are the two major
senses used for the delivery of human education or “man’s wisdom.”) neither have entered
into the heart of man (the heart of the unconverted natural man cannot receive this
revelation because he does not have the Holy Spirit to reveal things to him!) , the things
which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us
( Christians have the revelation ) by his Spirit : for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the
deep things of God” (1 Cor 2:9-10). Paul went on to explain that revelation of God’s
inside information is limited to the Christian because, “the things of God knoweth no man
(the natural man) , but the Spirit of God ” (1 Cor 2:11). Therefore only human beings who
are imbued with the Holy Spirit of God have the capacity to receive God’s secrets. This
information is a revelation!
Armed with this information, we can now understand Paul’s explanation much more
clearly, “How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery” (Eph 3:3). In
essence, Paul explained that the Holy Spirit gave him inside information ! Because of
Paul’s “abundance of revelations,” the demonic world reacted with great hostility to Paul,
“through the abundance of the revelations , there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the
messenger of Satan to buffet me” (2 Cor 12:7). Later, God even revealed to Paul that he
had sufficient Grace to overcome satan’s messenger!
One of the goals of this Bible Study is for you to get the revelation that the Holy Spirit of
God is our personal teacher! You might recall our opening question in this Bible Study,
“What is the objective of the Holy Spirit on this earth?” Through the Holy Spirit and in
time, God will to reveal to us His inside information , this is why John could write, “and ye
know all things ” (1 John 2:20). Clearly, my puny physical pea brain does not now know
“all things;” but, the Holy Spirit inside of me does and He reveals to me what is needed, as

I am ready! We have already observed that Paul’s major revelation was Jesus Himself, “I
neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ
(Gal 1:12).
Since Paul’s major revelation was of such significance, let’s study more closely the concept
of “ the revelation of Jesus Christ ” by observing Peter’s supernatural inside information
experience, “When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples,
saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?” (Matt 16:13). The disciples
responded that, “ Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some , Elias; and others , Jeremias,
or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? ” (Matt 16:14-
15). Now, at this point let’s observe the exact words between Peter and Jesus very
carefully, “And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living
God !” Simon Peter immediately blurted out his words and directly answered the question
that Jesus had just asked, “ But whom say ye that I am? ” However, Peter must have
startled himself with his own answer to Jesus’ question. From the context Peter must have
muttered something like the following under his breath, “Now where did that come from?”
How do we know that Peter muttered some kind of a question to himself? Simply follow
the text; let’s pick it up in context with Peter’s answer, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the
living God. And Jesus answered. ” Now why would Jesus answer if no question had first
been asked? The only solution is that Jesus answered Simon Peter’s mumble to himself,
“And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona : for flesh and
blood hath not revealed it unto thee (Peter had just gotten a revelation concerning Jesus
from God almighty! We can easily read from John 1:40-41, “One of the two which heard
John (the Baptist) speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41 He first
findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is,
being interpreted, the Christ” The point is that from the beginning Peter had learned from
Andrew (certainly flesh and blood) that Jesus was the Messiah; what had never entered
into his heart was that Jesus was, “the Son of the living God.” Jesus’ words continue
concerning what had been revealed to Peter and by whom that information had come) but
my Father which is in heaven ” (Matt 16:17).
With that whole concept in mind that Peter received revelation or inside information from
God about Jesus, now let’s notice how Jesus concluded that specific episode, “And I say
also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates
of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matt 16:18). In order to properly understand what
transpired in that instance, we must first notice that the apostle was given a new name on
that occasion. Notice from verse 17 ( above ) that Jesus had just referred to him as, “Simon
Barjonah;” next, in verse 18 Jesus proclaimed, “ thou art Peter , and upon this rock I will
build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Through these words,
Jesus was actually speaking into Peter’s life regarding the revelation or inside information
that he had just received! Peter had just received a revelation from God and as a result his
faith was becoming solid! Jesus’ words, “ upon this rock I will build my church” meant
that upon this solidifying of revelation from God concerning Jesus, He would build His

church! Through the Holy Spirit, and in the spirit realm, we receive revelation from God
Almighty! When you experience the receipt of revelation from God, you end up with a
deep down knowing in your being that the revelation is true. In the same fashion, the
Church drinks in truth which has originated from Jesus Christ. Like the children of Israel
in the wilderness, they, “did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same
spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock
was Christ! ” (1 Cor 10:3-4) In essence, Jesus was saying that He would build his Church
upon revelation through the spirit realm! Notice Jesus words to the gentile woman at the
well ( who is a symbol of His future church ), “ If thou knewest ( Jesus begins by focusing on
the concept of revelation ) the gift of God ( the Holy Spirit ), and who it is ( the Messiah ) that
saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given
thee living water” (John 4:10). Clearly, the woman was focused on her physical senses:
sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell; therefore, she argued with Jesus because he obviously
had nothing with which to draw this “living water.” Jesus explained that those who drink
water from the well would certainly thirst again, “but the water that I shall give him ( in
other words drinking from the Rock ) shall be in him a well of water springing up into
everlasting life” (John 4:14). As if to place an explanation mark on the concept of
revelation, Jesus revealed to her that she previously had five husbands. This revelation
astonished her. We know this because she was moved to say, “Sir, I perceive that thou art
a prophet” (John 4:19). Notice that her follow-up activities were fostered because of
revelation, “The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to
the men, 29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did : is not this the
Christ?” (John 4:28-29).
Are you drinking from the Rock? The answer to that question would depend upon how
thirsty you are! Unless one is thirsty he will not drink! All of humanity needs to try God’s
water! The ancient prophet Isaiah proclaimed, “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to
the waters , and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and
milk without money and without price. 2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is
not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and
eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. 3 Incline your ear, and
come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live” (Isa 55:1-3). The point is that we must
develop a hunger and a thirst for the things of God , “Jesus said unto them, I am the bread
of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never
thirst ” (John 6:35). Jesus proclaimed early in His ministry, “Blessed are they which do
hunger and thirst after righteousness : for they shall be filled” (Matt 5:6). Further, very
near the end of His ministry He again made proclamation regarding the drinking of water,
“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst,
let him come unto me, and drink . 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said,
out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39(But this spake he of the Spirit, which
they that believe on him should receive : for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because
that Jesus was not yet glorified” (John 7:37-39).

Inside Information!
Are you Drinking From the Rock?
In the not too distant future, Jesus will return to the earth and give us revelation which will
place everything in the proper light, “until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the
hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall
every man have praise of God” (1 Cor 4:5). Until then, whatever we need to know, the
Holy Spirit will reveal to us. He will reveal to us a direct proportion of those things for
which we hunger and thirst, “Thou gavest also thy good spirit to instruct them , and
withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst ” (Neh
9:20). Jesus does not withhold any information; however, in order to get the deep things of
God you must demonstrate a thirst for that revelation. As you thirst for deeper spiritual
knowledge the Holy Spirit will reveal even those deep secrets to your heart.
The entire world wants a genie ( mythical spirit ) from which they can receive inside
information . The amazing truth is that powerful inside information is available to
Christians from a non-mythical spirit, rather from the Holy Spirit! Are you getting this
inside information ? In order to receive this inside information all you need to do is drink
from the Rock!
The great mistake in Moses’ life involved a particular instance when he did not follow
precise instructions. He had been told to, “speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it
shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock” (Num
20:8). Instead of following precise instructions, Moses relapsed back to a previous
instruction given on a much earlier date, “thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come
water out of it, that the people may drink” (Ex 17:6). Whether out of anger, frustration, or
out of a lack of attention to detail, Moses did not get water for the people by speaking to
the rock as he had been instructed! Instead, he struck the rock according to an old
instruction. Let us not make that same mistake! Jesus has been smitten for us as a sacrifice
for our sin. Once we come under that sacrifice it is not required that he is smitten once
again in order for us to receive the Holy Spirit of God which gives us revelation. Jesus
Christ our Rock has already been beaten once and for all, “now once in the end of the
world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself” (Heb 9:26).
The children of Israel drank from the rock in the wilderness and they thirsted again and
they even died. We drink form the Rock (Jesus Christ) and His water satisfies our thirst.
In order for us to receive revelation from Jesus, He does not need to receive stripes and
undergo sacrifice again; rather, all we need to do is speak to the Rock, “speak ye unto the
rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water” (Num 20:8).
